A lifelong design enthusiast, Adams developed a keen awareness of how things are made early on, inspired by his childhood spent on a farm in Asheville, North Carolina. As a child, he would spend hours drawing, pencil always in hand. Today, it is his understanding of craft and sense of place that sets him apart.

Guided by his deep understanding of historical references, proportions, and details, the homes featured in this book exude true soul: whether a charming lakeside retreat in the woods, an elegant contemporary seaside retreat, or a traditional city manor. Styles and scales vary—Tudor, Arts and Crafts, French country, Southern farmhouse—but each is enhanced by natural materials and bespoke architectural details: refined woodwork and moldings, arched doorways, generous windows.
